How many habits should I track at once?
Two? Five? Ten? The honest answer depends on the season you're in. Here's a practical rule of thumb.
Short answer: three to five habits. More than that and you'll start dropping the list. Fewer and you risk under-investing in your week.
The 3–5 rule
When we look at people who stick with the app for 90+ days, almost all of them are tracking between three and five active habits. Above five, completion rates drop quickly. Above seven, most people quit.
Pick across life areas, not within one
- One body habit (walk, mobility, push-up).
- One mind habit (read, breathe, journal one line).
- One work or focus habit (one focus block, plan tomorrow).
- Optional: one connection habit (a message, a phone-free meal).
- Optional: one sleep or recovery habit.

When to add more
Only when your current list has been at >80% consistency for a month. Adding a sixth habit when you're at 50% on the first five just gives you something else to feel bad about.
Habit of the Day's onboarding picks a starter habit for you in under a minute.
